BIG SMOKE FESTIVAL 2024

British superstar rapper Skepta and Festival Republic launched the UK debut of Big Smoke Festival at Crystal Palace Park.

Despite the British rain, Skepta's one-day two-stage festival drew massive crowds to South London for thrilling performances by Skepta himself, Mike Skinner and The Streets, YG Marley, Mahalia and many emerging artists, highlighting the festival's commitment to "opening doors" for new talent.

THE BRIEF

This summer, Festival Republic brought a diverse lineup of artists at Crystal Palace Park for a weekend of live music from 5th- 7th July.

Headliners include The National, Bloc Party and Skepta, who also kicked off the inaugural edition of his own Big Smoke Festival during the event.

Building on the existing house LED package provided by Siyan, 80six was contracted to add a few LED additions that brought Skepta’s performance to life.

THE SOLUTION

Skepta's show, which mixed grime, trap, afrobeat, and dance, kept the audience engaged with striking LED and visuals, real-time camera effects, flames, strobes, smoke and even fireworks.

80six enhanced the experience visually by adding several LED totems of different sizes and shapes, creating a mosaic-type immersive visual backdrop.

"It was great being a part of the first Big Smoke Festival. The crowd was extremely involved, which always creates such a fantastic atmosphere. The use of LED screens creatively in that way, combined with the outstanding delivery from Skepta's video team and Skepta himself, created a show to remember." - Daniel Tomlinson, Project manager at 80six
