H&M and Charlie XCX Launch Party at London Fashion Week 2024
A Visual Spectacle with Evolving Immersive Sets, Strong Visual Narratives and Bold Performances
80six delivered the vision with transparent LED, automation and time-coded programming at London Fashion Week’s hottest Party.
When H&M released their Autumn/Winter 2024 with Charlie XCX, the fashion world was treated to an immersive launch party like no other.
Beautifully produced by Kennedy Agency, the immersive experience unfolded without a host, driven entirely by a strong visual narrative.
Guests such as Naomi Campbell, Lila Moss and Iris Law witnessed a seamless transformation of the Copper Box Arena from a large-scale fashion art installation to a high-energy Charli XCX concert and finally into a club experience with Jamie xx and Sherelle.
THE BRIEF
The creative vision by Production Designer Maximo Reccio required a bold technical approach and testing at our studio. The event needed to:
· Maintain the flexibility to support 3 distinct sets: a ‘fashion show’, live music performance and a club experience.
· Transform the venue in real-time through transparent LED technology, lasers and automation.
· Follow a time-coded structure where visuals, lighting and sound evolve seamlessly over 90 minutes.
“This time-based work presents a visual narrative inspired by the interplay of opposites, symbolised by the circle within the square. Beginning with geometric forms and symmetrical compositions, the visuals evolve into fluid, organic shapes, eventually giving way to the form of the human eye — from the square to the circle. As the piece progresses, the room shifts from a calm, controlled atmosphere to a vibrant and dynamic space.”, says Maximo Reccio, Production Designer.
THE SOLUTION
80six delivered a comprehensive video solution including LED technology, cameras and video control.
Guests were welcomed by a stunning outdoor LED installation, formed of three 7.2m x 7.2m LED screens, using ROE Carbon 5 panels.
Inside, 14 back-to-back transparent LED screens built with Vanish V8T panels and a grid ceiling featuring 670 ROE LED strips formed the centerpiece.
Custom rigging solutions, including Kinesys motors, allowed the setup to evolve dynamically throughout the evening—from the large-scale installation to Charli XCX’s concert and the club segment. This automation enabled real-time transformations, elevating the energy with each phase.
"Every 15 minutes, the visuals shifted, building intensity and culminating in an electrifying crescendo during Charli XCX's performance and Jamie xx's club experience," says Dan Hall, Head of ICVFX and Advanced Technologies at 80six.
The production relied on meticulous timecoded programming via disguise media servers, ensuring visuals, lights and audio were perfectly synchronized. The one exception was Jamie xx’s DJ set, where the LED grid lowered to create an intimate atmosphere, with freeform, live visuals.
The pre-production phase was crucial to the success. After thorough testing at 80six’s studio, Project Manager Oli Silk and the team exceeded expectations on-site: “The client gave us three days for the rig, but we finished a day early”.
